VANCOUVER
Arrive in Vancouver, a bustling west coast seaport in British Columbia. Spend time exploring this scenic and ethnically diverse city on your own including a visit to Vancouver Lookout (admission included). The "Lookout Tower" is one of the tallest Vancouver structures (observation deck at 551 ft/168 m), a prominent city landmark and includes the Top of Vancouver Revolving Restaurant. Observation Deck open till 10:30 p.m. and within walking distance of hotel (0.9 mi/1.5 km or about 20 min.). Dinner on own. Overnight in Vancouver.

VANCOUVER TO KAMLOOPS (BY TRAIN)Travel by Train
Travel onboard Rocky Mountaineer from coastal city of Vancouver to Kamloops. You will see dramatic changes in scenery, from lush green fields of Fraser Valley, through forests and winding river canyons surrounded by peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains, to desert-like environment of the British Columbia Interior. Highlights include the rushing waters (double that of Niagra Falls) of Hell's Gate in the Fraser Canyon and its steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River. Overnight in Kamloops. Dinner on own.

KAMLOOPS TO JASPER (BY TRAIN)Travel by Train
Your rail adventure continues north and east to the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. Highlights include Mount Robson, highest peak in the Canadian Rockies and Pyramid Falls, where glacier-fed Pyramid Creek waters tumble out of a hanging valley (abt. 300 ft/91 m high) and fall in two large drops (giving its name). Finally climb over Yellowhead Pass (3,711 ft/1,131 m) across the Continental Divide into Jasper National Park. Dinner on own.

Jasper National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Canadian Rockies' largest national park. Includes the incredible glaciers of Columbia Ice Field, hot springs, lakes, waterfalls and mountains. An unbelievable variety of mammals and birds occupy the park. Enjoy a scenic half-day tour of some of the park's natural attractions and rugged peaks. Visit Pyramid Lake (a kidney-shaped lake at the foot of Pyramid Mountain, a natural landmark overlooking Jasper), Patricia Lake (notable for involvement during World War II with a plan to build an unsinkable aircraft carrier from ice-based composites), Maligne Canyon (a scenic limestone canyon with waterfalls), and breathtaking Athabasca View of the glacier ice fields. Remainder of day free to explore Jasper on your own including lunch. Overnight in Jasper. Note: APOD (Astronomy Picture of the Day) for November 21, 2017 featured the Big Dipper over Pyramid Mountain!

JASPER TO BANFF (BY MOTOR COACH)Travel by Motor Coach
Travel to Banff via one of the most scenic highways in the world, the Icefields Parkway. A stop will be made at Athabasca Falls (a powerful, picturesque waterfall known for its large quantity of water falling into the gorge). Next arrive at the Columbia Icefield (largest ice field in the Rocky Mountains). Here you will ride on an Ice Explorer to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier to learn more about is geological features. This glacier is one of six principal "toes" of the Columbia Icefield in the Canadian Rockies. (The glacier has receded more than (0.93 mi/1.5 km) and lost over half of its volume in the past 125 years. It is the most visited glacier in North America. Your driver/guide will explain how glaciers are formed and point out some interesting geological features. Time will be available for lunch (not included). Afterward, a brief stop will be made at Bow Lake before arriving at Banff. Overnight in Banff. Dinner not included.

BANFF TO LAKE LOUISE (BY MOTOR COACH)Travel by Motor Coach
A half-day tour takes you into Yoho National Park to view some of its natural wonders, including the Spiral Tunnels (constructed to allow railways to gain vertical elevation within a short horizontal distance), Emerald Lake (largest of Yoho's 61 lakes and ponds and one of the park's premier tourist attractions with a vivid turquoise color caused by powdered limestone), and a natural rock bridge that spans the Kicking Horse River. (An impressive natural rock formation spanning the flow of the Kicking Horse River.) The tour includes a visit to Chateau Lake Louise (an historic resort on an emerald glacial lake). Return to Banff. Lunch on own.

Enjoy a full-day tour starting with a sightseeing tour of Banff. Highlights include Bow Falls (a major waterfall on the Bow River), Lake Minnewanka (a glacial lake in Banff National Park and longest in the Canadian Rocky Parks), Surprise Corner (a scenic viewpoint overlooking the 1888 Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and Sulphur Mountain), and the limestone Hoodoos. Admission to the Banff Gondola is included—a scenic, cableway ride in a glass enclosed gondola to 7,500 foot summit of Sulphur Mountain for breathtaking panoramic views of surrounding mountains. Continue on to Kananaskis for a souring Panoramic Helicopter Tour of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies giving you a totally incredible view of glaciers, mountain vistas, lakes, and waterfalls. This is the Rockies as you've never seen them. Your tour ends in Calgary late this afternoon. Visit neighboring Calgary Tower (admission included), about 790 ft/240 m or 3 min. away. This 626 ft/191 m free standing observation tower is in Downtown Calgary and tallest Canadian structure outside Toronto. Located at top of Calgary Tower is Sky 360, a revolving restaurant. Lunch and Dinner on own. Overnight in Calgary.

Your luxury train/motor coach vacation ends with checkout from hotel. Breakfast included before departure to Calgary International Airport—located approximately 5.6 miles/9 kilometres northeast of downtown. Airport houses two terminals, one for domestic operations and other for international flights. (Airport is fourth-busiest in Canada as of 2016.)
